Where AA Lodge Amboseli is

AA Lodge Amboseli is on the Emali to Loitokitok tarmac road, about 2 to 4 km from Kimana Gate, outside Amboseli National Park. The lodge describes it as a short distance from the park entrance, with quick entry and exit. For our road safaris that means a straightforward arrival: tarmac almost to the door, then into the park for the afternoon game drive.

Kimana Gate is on the park's eastern side and is also the link to Tsavo West, so the lodge suits a route that continues south.

Getting to AA Lodge Amboseli

By road, the lodge is on the Emali to Loitokitok tarmac road, so the drive from Nairobi is mostly on tarmac. Allow roughly four to five hours depending on traffic. The lodge also arranges airport and park transfers, and we can combine those with your safari vehicle.

Kilimanjaro views, honestly

The lodge looks toward Kilimanjaro, with views on clear days. Some rooms face the garden or the pool rather than the mountain, so the best view depends on where your room is. Kilimanjaro stands in Tanzania and Amboseli gives you the classic view of it from the Kenyan side. The summit is clearest at dawn and again in the late afternoon, and cloud usually builds around it as the day warms. January to February and June to October are the clearest months. March to May brings the long rains and the most cloud. We suggest a dawn drive on your first morning so you see the mountain at its best, whichever room you have.

Rooms

AA Lodge offers a mix of lodge rooms and permanent tented rooms, around 60 units in all. Most listings and agent copies of the lodge's rate sheet give 31 lodge rooms and 29 tents, while an older rate page showed a higher tent count, so we confirm the mix for your dates. Room types listed include single, double, triple, family and honeymoon rooms, with private bathrooms, balconies or terraces, desks and safes. Interconnecting and family options make it easy to keep a group together.

Facilities and meals

The lodge has a multi-cuisine restaurant, an African-themed bar, an outdoor swimming pool, spa and wellness treatments, a bonfire area and sundowner cocktails. Wi-Fi is available in public areas. The lodge also offers bush breakfasts, wildlife encounters and Maasai cultural experiences, which we can add to your safari.

A typical day at AA Lodge Amboseli

Tarmac takes you almost to the lodge door, so arrival days stay relaxed. On a full day you drive into the park at dawn, return for breakfast and the pool, and go out again in the afternoon. Evenings are for sundowners at the bar and the bonfire. You can add a bush breakfast or a Maasai cultural experience.
