Amboseli park fees

Amboseli entry fees are set by the Kenya Wildlife Service, charged per person for every 24 hours, and priced by visitor category and by adult or child. A non-resident adult pays USD 90 and a child USD 45 (rates checked 17 Oct 2026). Pay online in advance through KWSPay on eCitizen and show the QR ticket at the gate.

How much are Amboseli park fees?

A non-resident adult pays USD 90 to enter Amboseli National Park, and a child pays USD 45, for each 24 hours. The rate is flat all year. The Kenya Wildlife Service set it in the conservation fee schedule that took effect on 1 October 2025, and it can revise the schedule again. Rates correct as of 17 Oct 2026, confirm at booking. Read the total at checkout on KWSPay before you budget. When you book with us, your quote states the exact rate that applies to each person in your group.

Every visitor falls into one of four categories, and each category has an adult rate and a child or student rate.

East African citizenKES 1,500KES 750Citizens of the East African Community states, Kenyans included. Carry your national ID or passport.

African citizenUSD 50USD 25Nationals of other African countries, excluding Kenya and the East African states.
Non-residentUSD 90USD 45Foreign visitors travelling on a valid visa or entry authorisation.

Who pays the resident rate and who pays the non-resident rate?

KWS sorts visitors by nationality and residence. East African citizens pay the lowest rate. Kenya residents are foreign nationals who live in Kenya legally. African citizens are nationals of other African countries. Non-residents are foreign visitors on a valid visa. Carry the document that proves your category, because the person at the gate may ask for it, and use the same details when you book your ticket.

Children aged 5 and under enter free under the KWS card. A child rate applies from age 5 to 17, and an organised school group pays the student rate up to age 23. The boundary at age 5 is worded loosely, so send us your travellers' ages and we will check it for you.

What other charges can apply on top of the entry fee?

Entry is the biggest KWS charge for most visitors, but it is not the only one. The table lists the others you may meet. We include the ones that apply to your safari in your quote, so there are no surprises at the gate.

What do Tsavo West and the Masai Mara cost?

Two of our itineraries add another park. KWS runs Tsavo West and Tsavo East, and its fees are set in the same schedule as Amboseli. The Masai Mara is different. Narok County Government runs the reserve, not KWS, and it sets its own seasonal fee. A Mara ticket covers 12 hours, from 06:00 to 18:00, and guests who leave the reserve by road must exit by 10:00 or pay for another day.

How do I pay Amboseli park fees on eCitizen?

KWS lists eCitizen as the mode of payment for Amboseli, so plan to pay online before you arrive. In November 2025 KWS moved from the old eCitizen payment system to KWSPay, a portal inside eCitizen, which lets visitors prepay park entry and skip queues at the gate. The steps are short. Masai Mara tickets are sold separately through the Narok County e-ticketing system, not on KWSPay.

  1. Open KWSPay on the eCitizen website (kwspay.ecitizen.go.ke). Sign in or create an eCitizen account if the portal asks.
  2. Choose Single Park Entry, then select Amboseli National Park.
  3. Enter your entry date, each visitor category and the number of adults and children. Add vehicle details if the form asks for them.
  4. Review the total. At launch, KWS said a nominal administrative fee per transaction and a 5 percent gateway fee apply to online payments, so check what the checkout adds.
  5. Pay by M-Pesa, Visa or another bank card, bank transfer or e-wallet.
  6. Save the digital ticket and QR code. Keep a screenshot or printout as a backup.
  7. Show the QR code and your ID at the gate.

Book the right category and dates, and use the same names and ID details you will carry on the day. Tickets are issued for a named date and category, so a mistake is easier to fix before you travel than at the gate.

What do our safari packages include?

Our packages include KWS park entry at the rates in the table above. We pay online in advance, so you do not queue at the gate. To do that we need the full names, nationality and residence status of everyone in your group, and the ages of any children. Send them on WhatsApp when you confirm. Our Amboseli Day Trip from Nairobi, 2 Day Amboseli Safari and 3 Day Amboseli Safari all work this way. Optional extras, such as a Maasai community visit, are priced separately.

How do the fees change if I stay more than one day?

Fees run per person for every 24 hours in the park, so a longer stay adds to the total. If you sleep outside the park in a conservancy camp, you may pay conservancy fees to the landowners as well as KWS fees for the hours you spend inside the park. If you plan to combine parks, ask about the combined Tsavo West and Amboseli ticket. Our Amboseli and Tsavo West Safari is built around it. Tell us your entry and exit times and we will price them exactly.

Do park fees change through the year?

The KWS entry fee for Amboseli is the same in April as it is in August. Season changes lodge rates, not the gate. That is why the green months feel cheaper: accommodation drops, and the fee stays the same. Our Amboseli safari cost guide explains what else moves the price of a trip, and our best time guide shows what each month offers.

What rules apply once I have paid?

KWS publishes a short code for visitors, and we brief every guest on it before the first drive.

  • Gates open at 06:00 and close at 18:00, unless you are spending the night in the park.
  • The speed limit is 40 km/h, and off-road driving is prohibited.
  • Stay in the vehicle except in designated areas. Observation Hill is the best known of them.
  • Keep at least 20 metres from wildlife and never feed it.
  • National parks are plastic free, so single-use plastic is not allowed. Carry out your rubbish.
  • Hooting and driving under the influence of alcohol are prohibited.

Your fee supports the Kenya Wildlife Service, which manages the park, and the conservation work that keeps Amboseli's elephants, lions and swamps healthy. Send us your travel dates and group details, and we will price the whole safari, fees included.
