Stay inside Amboseli National Park, at Ol Tukai Lodge or Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, for game drives from your door. Stay outside, near Kimana Gate or on a private conservancy, for more choice and lower starting rates, from about USD 65 per person sharing, plus extra activities such as night drives.

Should you stay inside Amboseli National Park or outside it?

Inside the park, you are already where the animals are. There is no gate to cross each morning, and your first drive can start at first light. Of the nine lodges we feature, two stand inside Amboseli National Park, Ol Tukai Lodge and Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, so book them early for June to October.

Outside the park you have more choice and often a lower price. The gates open at 6 am and close at 6 pm, so you plan a short drive to the gate each morning and leave the park by dusk. Private conservancies add activities that are not allowed inside the park, such as night drives and game walks, and some charge a conservancy fee per person per night. Either way, a KWS entry ticket is valid for 24 hours, and our packages include it.
